It is Time to say Good-bye!

The items I have learned in this class have helped me become a better and more effective writer. I am currently getting my degree in Special Education so being an effective write will help me in my career. Many teachers are required to write grants to gain needed educational items for their classrooms.  When writing grants you are pleading with individuals to give you money for items you need and I think being able to effectively display ethos, logos, and pathos will help in my grant writing.

This class has also taught me how to organize my thoughts on paper and how to effectively display those thoughts onto paper. I am also more familiar with MLA format and no longer scared to start a paper. We all know part of college includes writing many papers. The information I have learned in this class will also help me throughout the rest of my college journey. Especially in my writing classes that I have to complete after this one such as EN140 and LI243. I will be able to build upon what I learned in this class to become an even better writer. Lastly, I am more comfortable when reading other peoples writing because I have a better understanding of writing techniques.

Self-Review

This paper has been the toughest one yet! I know there are naysayers for my topic, but finding actual individuals that admit on paper that they discriminate against nursing mothers has been quite the task. When starting this paper I took the advice Mr. Sentell had given me in his feedback from my informative paper. This feedback really helped me get started on this paper and see what I needed to fix. Other than small grammatical errors and needing to fix a few organizational issues I feel confident in my paper. One strength I found in my paper was my thesis sentence. I feel I have a very strong thesis sentence and supporting evidences for my points. My biggest obstacle is going to be incorporating more naysayers for my final draft. I want to ensure I find the right naysayers for my topic. This is important for the overall flow of my paper and being able to validate my points.

Throughout this semester I have really been working on the organization of my paper and trying to strengthen my thesis statement. These reviews have helped me see where my paper needs revising and helped me see my strengths as well. These reviews have been very helpful and made me a stronger writer.

Naysayers Research

My paper is going to be over breastfeeding. When I was brainstorming my “naysayers” I thought the bottle over breast would be a huge issue as well as breastfeeding in public. Both of these items have individuals that agree with one or the other, but rarely do people agree with both sides.

Some people seem to think that bottle feeding overall is easier for the mother and better for both the mother and infant. While bottle feeding may seem easier than breastfeeding, breastfeeding is more convenient there is no need to heat the breast up, shake the breast or have to wash multiple items related to breastfeeding. When bottle feeding you have to buy formula, provide purified water for the bottle, warm the milk, and wash many bottles, nipples, and lids. Breastfeeding enables a mother to commit to the infant on the level the infant desires and deserves. The bottle places a physical barrier between mother and baby, blocking that powerful and perhaps threatening intimacy. (Barbara Wilson-Clay)

Another naysayer I brainstormed was one who would argue that public breastfeeding is indecent and unacceptable. The sad fact is many people feel this way and it has caused many new mothers to choose bottle feeding over breastfeeding. My argument would be infants need to eat every 2-3 hours, breastfeeding mothers are likely to need to feed in public spaces unless they want to become a prisoner in their own house.
