My paper is over the benefits, discrimination and history of breastfeeding. I know breastfeeding in general is a controversial topic and
either people are for it or against it. Especially when you start talking about public
breastfeeding then you really get into a hot topic for some people. I think this is
a topic many don’t like to discuss because it is their personal beliefs. I
imagine my "naysayers" would talk about how formula feeding is just
as beneficial as breastfeeding, the convenience of formula feeding over
breastfeeding and that women shouldn't be able to nurse out in public areas
where others can see her. There are many people who are uncomfortable when
seeing a nursing mother and tend to make rude comments or expect the mother to
move to a restroom or area where others can’t see her.
My reaction to these “naysayers” would include educated
responses that prove the benefits of breastfeeding over formula feeding and
educating individuals on the reasons why mothers should be allowed to nurse in
a public area. Obviously the nursing mother needs to be as decent as possible,
but we all need to understand that sometimes there are circumstances where the
mother may be exposed for a short period of time. My hopes are after educating
my “naysayers” they will have a better understanding of my point of view.

ReplyDeleteI just read an article where a mother was removed from the court room I want to think last week in Georgia for breast feeding. Although the state law allows for breast feeding in public a "female" court deputy instructed the lady to leave the court room. You will definitely have plenty of naysayer documentation for this argument.

ReplyDeleteYou chose a very interesting topic for this assignment! I have a feeling you are going to find many naysayers that are clearly against your view. There are many people who feel very strongly about this subject. You should have no problem at all finding naysayers for your paper.
