I’m a photographer and I designed my own website for my
photography. While I knew a lot about what Rundle was saying there were a few
point he made that I had never thought about before. I had never thought that having
very contrasting elements would help direct the viewer’s eyes right where you
want them. I also never knew that you should have related elements grouped
together. All of his suggestions made sense. I think we all see these things
when we are looking at people’s work, but we don’t stop to see what is actually
bothering us about their work.
If you are looking through blogs and you come across one
that is overly busy and hard to read you are going to move on and probably
never come back. This is the same for documents that are overly busy or illegible.
I know personally if I’m trying to read a document and find myself struggling
to read the font or the document is disorganized I become very annoyed. Once I
become annoyed with the document no matter how good the content is I can’t
enjoy it. When I see a document that is well organized and easy on the eyes I
typically enjoy reading it and will be more willing to read more from that
individual who created it. Now that we know what C.R.A.P means maybe we will
pay a little closer attention to what actually bothers us and what we enjoy
about documents we see.

Natasha I too will move on when I find something 'hard to read'. Sometimes it is just the text or layout verus the context itself. I find that sometimes the text is such a contrast to the background that it is actually difficult to see. I like you, will get anoyed and move on..
ReplyDeleteNatasha, you make a great point! Until we consciously name and understand design principles (or anything else), we cannot consciously reflect on and control it. We're stuck with just sensing that something's "off" or "better" without understanding why. Good insight!
ReplyDeleteNatasha,
ReplyDeleteI agree with you on the fact that if I come across something that is hard to read, I'll move on. The information and the document itself could be astounding, but if the layout is not appealing, then I cannot convince myself to read it. I get annoyed how messy it is or how difficult it is to look at and I will move on.
